Instructor Bio: About the Speaker: Christopher Bickford Christopher Bickford is an acclaimed photographer, author, and storyteller best known for his evocative work capturing the soul of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. A UVA alum and longtime resident of the Outer Banks, Chris began his career exploring the region’s dramatic landscapes and unique coastal light, which laid the foundation for his signature photographic style. His book, Legends of the Sandbar, is a powerful tribute to the Outer Banks surf community—combining striking black-and-white imagery with essays that blend journalism, memoir, and oral history. The project, nearly a decade in the making, has earned praise from Outside Magazine, Surfline.com, and The Surfer’s Journal for its artistic depth and cultural significance. Chris has worked with clients such as National Geographic, NPR, The New York Times, and the Grand Ole Opry, but continues to call the Outer Banks home, where he remains immersed in the coastal stories that inspire his work.
