Bring your beach chairs and settle in for an unforgettable evening!

Join us for an enlightening and relaxing evening beneath the iconic Old Baldy Lighthouse as we explore the profound history of Reconstruction in North Carolina with renowned Civil War scholar Dr. Angela M. Zombek.

As a Copie Hill Civil War Fellow with the American Battlefield Trust and Assistant Professor of History at UNCW, Dr. Zombek brings deep expertise and engaging storytelling to this critical chapter of American history. She will guide us through the turbulent Reconstruction era — a time when North Carolina, like much of the South, grappled with reintegration, resistance, and the fight for freedom in the wake of the Civil War.

Her talk, “Competing Visions of the Post-War World: Military Reconstruction & Southern Resistance in North Carolina,” will explore:

  • The challenges of reunifying the Union

  • The impact of federal military presence in the South

  • The meaning of freedom for formerly enslaved individuals

  • The rise of Southern resistance and its legacy

Sip wine, enjoy the sea breeze, and engage with history in a setting as storied as the topic itself.

Important Info:

  • No physical tickets will be issued. Just show up — your name will be on the guest list.

  • Unlimited wine and beer included with your admission.

  • Don’t forget your beach chair for comfortable seating during the lecture.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to combine your love of history with an evening of coastal charm. Whether you're a history buff or simply curious, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
