Renowned historian, writer, and educator Dr. Kimberly Sherman will present "Visions of Empire: Janet Schaw in the Lower Cape Fear". Discover the sharp insights of Scottish traveler Janet Schaw, whose 1775 travel diary captures the complexities of colonial life in Brunswick Town—offering a rare, candid perspective on early American society.

Instructor: Kimberly Sherman
Instructor Bio: Dr. Kim Sherman is a historian, writer, and textile artist from Wilmington, NC. Kim's research has largely centered around social and environmental history in the British Atlantic World and in the Lower Cape Fear. Kim received a PhD in Modern History from the University of St Andrews in 2018. Having worked in higher education for more than fifteen years, they are currently a Lecturer in Atlantic History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
