May 2026 Historic Happy Hour



Join us for a relaxed and engaging evening at Old Baldy Lighthouse as part of our Historic Happy Hour series. This special event, A Snapshot of Herbert Bamber: The First Known Photographer of the Outer Banks Lighthouses, takes place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 4:30–5:30 PM.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the lighthouse grounds, this talk will explore the life and work of Herbert Bamber, a pioneering photographer who traveled the country in the late 19th century documenting America’s lighthouses. The presentation will be led by Aida Havel of Havel Research Associates, whose decades of research into lighthouse history bring this fascinating story to life.

Bring your beach chairs, settle in, and enjoy a casual evening of history, conversation, and coastal atmosphere—complete with unlimited beer and wine included with your ticket.

Instructor: Aida Havel
Instructor Bio: Aida Havel of Havel Research Associates: Aida and her husband John Havel have devoted over two decades to researching the history of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and are board members of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society. They live in Salvo on Hatteras Island.
